What is the Community Health and Environment Coalition of Long Island?
In March 2002, Community Health and Environment Coalition of Long Island was formed as a committee of the Mt. Sinai Civic Association. The goal of the group was to address community concerns regarding the results of New York Department of Health’s Cancer Mapping Project data, which showed Mt. Sinai having elevated incidences of breast cancer. The Coalition has evolved into an independent not-for-profit organization, which advocates that health and the environment are interrelated, and interact with each other. The coalition encourages community participation and education in health and environment issues, and promotes active dialog with our political leaders in taking a proactive approach towards ensuring a safe and healthy environment. We strive for increased public awareness for the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer and other diseases.
